About This Project
In the summer of 2016, Weeva set out to leverage our community engagement platform by diving into Austin’s music scene. We live here, we love the music, and we wanted to know more. We’re so honored to present the result: Seduced by Sound: Austin.
With the help of frontwoman and guitarist Carley Wolf of the band The Ghost Wolves, we collected stories from over 100 Austin musicians and bands about their inspirations and influences, and why they choose to make music. The artists featured in the book run from established musicians such as Alejandro Escovedo and Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, to rising stars such as Sweet Spirit. We also gathered tributes to some of Austin’s music legends, including Stevie Ray Vaughan and Townes Van Zandt, and we took a look at where the music scene has been and where it’s going.
By weaving these words together, Seduced by Sound becomes more than a book about Austin music. It’s a thank you note from musicians to the people who’ve inspired them. It’s a love letter to the city’s music scene; and it’s a gift to music fans who want to explore what’s happening today in this city humming with creativity
Giving Back
This book would not have been possible without the participation of the incredibly diverse and talented Artists who call Austin home. This book has a mission to give back to the Austin music community: Weeva is gifting a share of sales proceeds from Seduced by Sound to HAAM, a local nonprofit supporting Austin musicians by providing access to affordable health care services.
We give a donation to Kids in A New Groove (KING) and to AMF for any books purchased at their event, or via their Add$5 link. This is in addition to the base amount that we give to HAAM.
The Team
Kimberly Gorsuch-Bradbury
Weeva founder and CEO
Kim is a growth-oriented executive, comfortable with starting things from scratch and growing them to scale. Her professional experience includes leading business strategy for IBM, LendingTree and IAC/Interactive. In founding Weeva, Kim envisioned a way to help people work together to capture and preserve important shared experiences, deepening connection among people by using the power of collaboration and authentic personal storytelling. Seduced by Sound: Austin features 100 musicians doing just that.
Carley Wolf
Guitarist and frontwoman of the Ghost Wolves
Carley started playing music as a teenager, fronting her rockabilly band around the honky tonks and dancehalls of Texas and Oklahoma. She holds a degree in sound recording technology from Texas State University and is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, actor and visual artist. Her band, the Ghost Wolves, calls Austin home but tours nationally and internationally.
